Report: Suarez Says He Will Stay at Liverpool

Luis Suarez has apparently told a Uruguayan newspaper that will he remain at Liverpool next season and could even sign a contract extension. "For now, due to all of the people's affection, I will be staying," Suarez is quoted as saying in El Observador.

The direct quote follows a tweet from GolTV journalist Martin Charquero, who said on Wednesday: "Luis Suárez confirms to me that he will not leave Liverpool. The support of the fans in recent weeks influenced his decision. Suárez sees it as likely that he'll sign a renewal to the contract that binds him to Liverpool."

Despite the apparent U-turn, Liverpool has yet to hear from the Uruguay international, who has been an outcast at Anfield since telling the Guardian that coach Brendan Rodgers had promised he could leave the club if it failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League last season. Rodgers responded by forcing Suarez to train alone and telling him that he could not return to the squad until he publicly apologized.

Meanwhile, owner John W Henry recently reinforced the club’s stance that Suarez would not be sold to Arsenal, which lodged two bids for the controversial striker, or any European club for any price.
