San Diego State is heavy favorite

[MOUNTAIN WEST: Women] Defending champion San Diego State is the favorite to win the 2013 Mountain West regular-season title ahead of New Mexico. The Aztecs return seven starters from the 2012 team that went through conference play without a blemish (7-0) and reached the third round of the NCAA Tournament.

Leading the group of returning Aztecs is senior defender Haley Palmer, the 2012 MW Defensive Player of the Year. Coach Mike Friesen also returns All-MW picks Hannah Keane (seven goals, seven assists) and Carli Johnson (two goals, four assists).

New Mexico finished 2012 with an 11-7-2 overall mark and tied for second place in the MW regular-season standings with Boise State. Kit Vela returns 11 letterwinners and five starters to his lineup, including senior midfielders Elba Holguin (goal, three assists) and Brianna Webster (two goals).
