Cosmos win in stoppage time again

[NASL REWIND: Saturday] The crowd was nowhere as big as it was for the opener -- 6,852 fans at Hofstra’s Shuart Stadium -- but the New York Cosmos thrilled them again with their second straight home win on a stoppage-time goal.

Guatemalan international Henry Lopez, who attended high school in Virginia, came off the bench to score on a header off former Spain international Marcos Senna's cross to give the Cosmos a 2-1 win over the San Antonio Scorpions, who are now without a point after four games in the fall season.

"The game was different," said Cosmos coach Giovanni Savarese. "They created chances, our goalkeeper was able to be big today in two or three situations and we also created more opportunities, found more spaces behind the other team. In some ways, it was a different game, but the score was the same and the drama at the end was the same."



-- Brian Shriver extended his lead in the race for the Golden Boot with his fourth goal of the fall season and 12th overall to lead the first-place Carolina RailHawks to a 1-0 win over Minnesota United FC before 5,201 fans at Wake Med Soccer Park.

The RailHawks' lead at the top of the NASL standings is now three points as they stretched their unbeaten streak at Wake Med Soccer Park to 12 games in 2013.
 
"We have done a good job this evening and I am delighted that we got another clean sheet, but I think we need to kill off the game a little bit better next time," said RailHawks coach Colin Clarke. "Overall it was a great result and another three points."
 
-- The Fort Lauderdale Strikers won their second game in a row under new coach Gunter Kronsteiner with a 1-0 win at the Atlanta Silverbacks on a goal by FC Dallas loan player Bradlee Baladez goal. The game drew 3,822 fans at Silverbacks Park.

-- The Tampa Bay Rowdies and FC Edmonton shared the points with a 1-1 tie before 3,118 fans at Al Lang Stadium, just as they had in the previous two meetings this year. Chris Nurse canceled out a Luke Mulholland goal.
