[COLLEGE WOMEN: Sunday] Kealia Ohai and Crystal Dunn showed why they are the best1-2 combination in the women’s game, combining for three goals in No. 1 North Carolina’s 4-0 win over VCU at the Kloeckner Classic.

Ohai scored two goals, and Dunn had her third goal ofthe weekend as she dribbled through several defenders to score unassisted in the 73rd minute.

No. 7 Virginia won the Kloeckner Classic with a 4-0 winover Santa Clara.

Brittany Ratcliffe scored twice to record her first career multi-goal game, and U.S. national team call-up Morgan Brian and Makenzy Doniak each had a goal and an assist.

“I was really happy with our mentalitytoday,” said Cavs coach Steve Swanson. “After the Friday game, sometimes it is tough to get ready to come back again on Sunday. I thought our teamplayed really hard and played some very attractive soccer.”

Upset Central …

No. 8 Duke dropped a 1-0 road decision at SouthCarolina two days after winning by the same score at No. 16 Texas A&M.

Danielle Au found herself in a one-v-one with Duke goalkeeper Meghan Thomas and scored the game’s lone goal in the 34th minute.

Despite the Blue Devils’ 12-5 shot advantage, Duke head coach Robbie Church said South Carolina deserved to win.

“They outworked us,” he said. “They played hard and they wanted to win.”

FRESHMAN WATCH. Three goals by freshman Savannah Jordan gave No. 21 Florida a 3-1 win over Oregon State.

Jordan has five goals intwo games — the highest goal total for any Gator through a season’s opening two contests. She is only the third Gator freshman to score a hat trick after AndiSellers (two in 1997) and Abby Wambach (one in 1998).

— Icelandic international BerglindThorvaldsdottir, a red-shirt freshman, tallied two goals and an assist to lead No. 6 Florida State to a 4-1 victory over Auburn — the Seminoles’ 20th straight win at home.

Ellie Boon buried the game-winner in the third minute of overtime to give No. 20 Portland a 2-1 win at Oregon.

— USC, which knocked off No. 11 SanDiego State on Friday, swept the USD Tournament with a 4-2 over the host Toreros, getting back-to-back goals from freshman Tanya Samarzich in the first half.

In a back-and-forth contest that saw both teams take the lead — twice — No. 25 Illinois beat Louisville, 5-4, on freshmanMeegan Johnston‘s golden goal less than four minutes into overtime.

“Meegan has a cannon with both feet and certainly showed it at the end of thegame today,” Illinois coach Janet Rayfield said. “It wasn’t the way we drew it up in the locker room, but we will take the win.”
 
ALL-CALL. In North Carolina’s win over VCU, Coach Anson Dorrance played all 26 players who dressed for the game and all 26 playedat least 10 minutes. 

Milestone …

Senior Kristen Hamilton scored two goals to lead No. 24Denver to a 3-0 win over Northern Colorado that earned the Pioneers their first-ever Colorado Cup trophy. With her two goals, Hamilton became the fourth Pioneer in program history to record 100 careerpoints.
