Wenger Bemoans 'Brainwashed' Gunners Fans

Arsene Wenger has hit out at the British press for “brainwashing” Gunners fans into thinking the club is constantly in crisis. Both Wenger and the club’s management came under intense criticism following Arsenal’s 3-1 home loss to Aston Villa on the opening day of the Premier League season last weekend.

"The media in general has brainwashed a little bit the Emirates. Maybe rightly so, I don't know, because we haven't won trophies for years everything is negative. But we have to live with that and focus on playing well football."

The Frenchman added: "People always want news. We live in a world which is very interesting but very excessive. When people are not loyal, you are critical. When people are loyal, you say they have been there too long. It's always excessive reaction. The people in charge need to keep their distance from that more than ever.”

Arsenal won its second game of the EPL season, 3-1 at Fulham. Wenger also confirmed that the club continues to pursue new players before the transfer window closes next Monday. Yoann Cabaye (Newcastle), Karim Benzema, Mesut Ozil and Angel Di Maria (all Real Madrid) are among the players the North London club is said to be considering.
