Jose Mourinho has told Wayne Rooney that it is up to him to force a move to Chelsea by handing in a transfer request or he will move onto other striking targets. The Blues coach has had two bids for the Manchester United striker rejected so far this summer and, prior to Monday’s 0-0 draw between the clubs at Old Trafford, he stated that he intends tomake a third and final bid before the transfer deadline next Monday.

However, it seems the Portuguese now believes Rooney will stay with the Premier League champion. “This club must be a veryspecial club because at every club in the world, when the player wants to leave they [the fans] don’t support him,” Mourinho said. “When a player wants to leave they give him a hard time but[here] they support him all the way so I think this is a real special club with special fans so he decides that he wants to stay. If that is his decision then we will be the first to respectthat.” Mourinho went on to say he would give Rooney 24 to 48 hours to go public with his desire to join Chelsea before moving on to another striker.

Separately, Sky Sports is reporting that Rooney has decided not to hand ina transfer request, although he remains unhappy at Manchester United. The England striker believes it would be disrespectful to the club, the manager, the team and the fans to do so.
