NBCSN offers exciting Friday night MLS clashes

By Paul Kennedy

Friday night is the new viewing night for soccer fans.

ESPN Deportes (and Azteca America) have been offering Mexican league matches -- many of them involving Tijuana and its large American contingent -- and NBCSN will continue its Friday night coverage of MLS that began last week with Friday night games over six of the next eight weeks.

It begins Friday with the Real Salt Lake-Portland match -- the third meeting of the month between the two Western Conference teams -- and will continue two weeks after that for what should be Clint Dempsey's second home with the Seattle Sounders against Real Salt Lake.

MLS Friday nights on NBCSN:
Aug. 30 -- Real Salt Lake vs. Portland, 10 p.m. ET
Sept. 13 -- Seattle vs. Real Salt Lake, 10 p.m. ET
Sept. 20 --
Portland vs. Colorado, 10 p.m. ET
Sept. 27 --
Sporting KC vs. Philadelphia, 8 pm ET
Oct. 4 --
D.C. United vs. Chicago, 8 pm ET
Oct. 18 -- Sporting KC vs. D.C. United, 8 pm ET

THURSDAY ALERT: USMNT ROSTER ANNOUNCEMENT. Jurgen Klinsmann will announce Thursday the U.S. roster for the upcoming World Cup 2014 qualifiers against Costa Rica and Mexico at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN's SportsCenter.

NBCSN ADDS CARDIFF-EVERTON.
In a schedule change, the Cardiff City-Everton match, featuring Everton and U.S. goalkeeper Tim Howard and newly promoted Cardiff has been moved into the Saturday 10 a.m. ET slot on NBCSN. The Welsh club is fresh off a 3-2 upset win over Manchester City. NBCSN's EPL coverage on Sunday features two big matches: Liverpool-Manchester United at 8:30 a.m. ET followed by Arsenal-Tottenham in the North London derby at 11 p.m. ET.

NWSL FINAL ON FS2. The inaugural NWSL final between the top-seeded Western New York and Portland Thorns FC will air on Fox Sports 2 Saturday at 8 p.m. It will also be available online at FOXSoccer2Go.

MAN. CITY ON YES NETWORK. Manchester City FC signed a multi-year agreement with the YES Network to carry Manchester City games on tape delay and the club's two magazine shows, CityLife and Inside City. No surprise here: YES Network stands for Yankees Entertainment and Sports (YES) Network. Manchester City and the New York Yankees are co-owners of NYCFC, the MLS club that will begin play in 2015.

PUB WATCH. Saturday morning soccer-watching is a big deal in football country. Dallas pub Idle Rich Pub filled the local void when the Londoner Uptown shuttered (lease issues). Idle Rich Pub is opening at 6:15 a.m. on Saturdays for EPL fans -- bar opens at 7 a.m. -- and has been opening early for midday matches this week.
