Fellaini Completes Man United Transfer

It was not until 2 am on Tuesday morning UK time—three hours after the transfer window had closed—that Manchester United could confirm that it finally landed one of its primary transfer targets this summer: Marouane Fellaini, who joins the Old Trafford club for nearly $43 million from Everton.

However, the price is close to double what United had initially offered to pay for the 25-year-old, and Coach David Moyes also could have signed him for $6.2 million less had he done so before the player’s release clause expired on July 31st. Fellaini becomes United’s fourth-highest transfer in its history, ahead of Wayne Rooney but behind Dimitar Berbatov, Rio Ferdinand and Juan Sebastian Veron.

After securing the move, the Belgium international said: "I am thrilled to sign for Manchester United. I have known the manager for many years now and I have a lot of respect for his way of working. When I was given the opportunity to work with him again, I jumped at the chance.” He added: "I had a fantastic time at Everton and I'd like to thank all the fans and staff there for everything they have done for me. But being a Manchester United player is something that every player dreams of and I believe that I can make a real contribution to the team's efforts to win trophies in the future."
