The United States is one of seven countries that could confirm its place in next year’s World Cup finals in Brazil when World Cup qualifying resumes on Friday and Tuesday.
In Europe, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands could qualify with two wins, while Switzerland and Bosnia could qualify with two wins and if other results go their way.
In Concacaf, the USA could secure qualification with wins against Costa Rica and Mexico (and could even qualify with a win on Friday if other results go its way), while first-place Argentina could become the first South American country to qualify with a win against bottom-of-the-standings club Paraguay.
So far, host Brazil and Australia, Iran, Japan and South Korea are the only countries that have qualified. The opening match of the 2014 World Cup is just over nine months away on June 12.
