Orlando City prepares for 2014 with eye on 2015 in MLS

[USL PRO] Orlando City, the 2013 USL PRO champion, is already making plans for the 2014 with an eye on the possibility of entering MLS a year after that. Four players are already under contract for the 2014 season and three more have been offered contracts.

“I honestly believe in a year’s time we will be in Major League Soccer, and that step is the big one,” said Orlando City coach Adrian Heath. We are preparing a squad that consists of players who we believe might make the jump with us.”

Players currently under contract for the 2014 season include forward Dennis Chin, midfielders Jamie Watson and James O’Connor and defender Rob Valentino. O’Connor was promoted to player/coach while Ian Fuller, a player/coach for the past three seasons, will become a full-time assistant coach.

Players who have received new offers include midfielder Anthony Pulis, defender Luke Boden and goalkeeper Miguel Gallardo. Orlando City is also in discussions with midfielders Adama Mbengue, Kevin Molino and Bryan Burke (pending full recovery of leg injury) to potentially return in 2014.

“We have very high long-term expectations at our club and aim to continually improve each season.  The players returning here will have to perform better in 2014,” Heath continued. “Whilst winning the championship is very satisfying, some of the regular season performances were unacceptable to the standards we require at the club.”
