Manchester United Reports Record Revenue

Manchester United on Tuesday reported record revenue of $579.6 million for the 12-month period ending on May 31. The Premier League club, which is controlled by the Glazer family, made a net profit of $233 million, enjoying a big 30 percent rise in commercial revenues, thanks to new sponsorship, merchandising and product licensing deals.

Around 42 percent of the club’s revenue, or $244 million, now comes from commercial rights deals, including a new shirt sponsorship deal with US automaker Chevrolet, which becomes the club’s shirt sponsor next season. The rest is split between TV rights, worth $163 million, and game-day revenues, worth $174 million. About half of all the money brought in by United is spent on staffing costs, which includes transfer fees and players’ salaries.

"We are very proud of our results,” United Executive Chairman Ed Woodward said. “Our commercial business continues to be a very powerful engine of growth enabling the team to continue to be successful.”
