Real: Pique's Borrowing Claims Incorrect

Real Madrid President Florentino Perez denied Barcelona defender Gerard Pique's claims that Real Madrid borrowed money to fund the club's summer spending spree, which included the $132 million signing of Gareth Bale. Pique suggested that Real was being bankrolled by the Spanish lender Bankia while Barca preferred to rely on homegrown talent. However, AS later reported that the record-breaking deal was actually supported by the UK arm of Spanish lender Banco Santander.
