The Salvadoran soccer federation (FESFUT) banned 14 national team players for life for their role in suspected match-fixing of four matches,
including a friendly against the USA in 2010.
Among those banned were veteran goalkeeper Miguel Montes
and former MLS players Christian Castillo
(D.C. United), Osael Romero
(Chivas USA) and Ramon Sanchez
Other players handed life bans: Luis Anaya
, Miguel Granadino
, Dagoberto Portillo
, Dennis Alas
, Darwin Bonilla
, Ramon Flores
, Mordecai Henriquez
, Marvin Gonzalez
and Reynaldo Hernandez
. Romeo Monteagudo
was banned for 18 months, while former D.C. United player Eliseo Quintanilla
and Victor Turcios
received six-month bans.
Four players -- including Gold Cup star
-- remained under investigation, while Carlos Carillo
was cleared, making him the only one of the 22 players suspended for one
month while the FESFUT investigation was ongoing to escape punishment.
