D.C. United owner close to taking over Inter Milan

Inter Milan owner Massimo Moratti has denied a report that a deal has been done by which he would sell 75 percent of the club to Indonesian businessman Erick Thohir, who is the majority owner of the NBA Philadelphia 76ers and D.C. United.

The two have been in discussions for several months regarding a takeover that would be worth 300 million pounds ($480 million), according to BBC Sport. Inter Milan currently carries a debt of about 250 million pounds ($400 million). Moratti said it could be another month before an agreement is reached and a deal is signed. He confirmed that he'd met recently with Thohir and some of his proposed partners in the venture.

"It was an opportunity to get to know each other a bit better and also to meet the people who could come on board with Thohir in any agreement," said Moratti. "It was more an opportunity to get to know them than to make a decision. And there are no big problems to resolve either."

Since taking over as Inter president in 1995, Moratti has overseen five Serie A titles, a UEFA Champions League title and a UEFA Cup.
