“I didn’t know how much time was left I just turned andshot,” he said. “Luckily, I didn’t waste time. I was just really excited to get the chance to score and go into thehalf with the lead.”

The York defense shut down Messiah in the second half, holding the Falcons to one shot on goal. Messiah finished the game with a 14-12 edge in shots, but York had a6-5 edge in shots on goal.

The win was revenge for the Spartans’ loss to Messiah on penalty kicks in the round of 16 of the 2012 NCAA Division III Tournament. The Falcons went on to wintheir ninth national title.

York’s last win over the Falcons was in 2009.
