In a radio interview, Real Madrid president
Florentino Perez revealed that Manchester United also tried to sign
Gareth Bale from Tottenham Hotspur this summer, and
that given the Red Devils’ intense interest, the Wales forward “came cheaply.” Bale eventually joined Real Madrid for a world record 85.3 million pounds ($136.7 million).
