Huskers run winning streak to seven games

[NEBRASKA-IOWA: Women] An own goal deflection off Iowa defender Caitlin Brown with nine minutes to play gave No. 23 Nebraska a 2-1 win over Iowa that ran the Huskers' win streak to seven games. They are perfect in the Big Ten with a 4-0-0 record, their best start in league play since 2006 as a member of the Big 12.

"It was a great team win that shows we can overcome adversity once again," said sophomore Katie Kraeutner. "We know we have that competitive edge and we believe in ourselves and our abilities."

Kraeutner put the Huskers ahead in the 27th minute when she swept Stacy Bartels' pass inside the far post for her fourth tally of the year, all coming in the last six matches.

Iowa, which was perfect in non-conference play but is now 1-3-0 in Big Ten play, notched the equalizer 14 minutes into the second half when Cloe Lacasse found Katie Nasenbenny for her second score of the year.

The winning goal came when Samantha Areman's cross glanced off freshman Sydney Miramontez's head, but then deflected off Brown for the own goal.

In the waning moments, goalkeeper Emma Stevens made a pair of saves and Mexican international defender Ari Romero made a sensational sliding stop to keep the Hawkeyes at bay.

Next up: No. 25 Michigan Sunday in Lincoln.
