Huskies take their chances

[STANFORD-WASHINGTON: Men] No. 4 Washington snapped Stanford's five-game winning streak with a 3-1 win at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium.

“It’s just a real disappointing result when that happens in soccer,” Cardinal coach Jeremy Gunn said in reference to the Cardinal's edge in play (19-12 shot advantage). “We were throwing everything at them and I thought we played brilliantly throughout the game, created tons of chances. On another night I think if we’d won 3-1 I doubt there would be anybody questioning the result, really. But that’s what’s important about soccer. We were first in so many categories, created good chances but it’s about scoring goals.”

Washington took the lead 11 minutes on a goal by Steven Wright and it held up until Matt Taylor’s equalizer with his first collegiate goal in the 65th minute.

The Huskies went ahead in the 77th minute when Taylor Peay headed Darwin Jones' corner kick past Drew Hutchins, and Jones would put the match away in the 87th minute with a blast on a counter.
