Rooney: Best England Attack in 10 Years

Wayne Rooney thinks the five strikers currently in England’s squad -- Daniel Sturridge, Jermain Defoe, Danny Welbeck, Rickie Lambert and himself-- represent the best attacking lineup he has seen in 10 years representing his country.

"I think since I've been in the squad this is probably the best group of forwards we've had in terms of ability, goalscoring wise. Then obviously Rickie Lambert's come into the squad, he's scoring goals for Southampton he's done really well for England,” the Manchester United striker said.

"Then you've got Welbeck and Sturridge and then obviously myself. Me and Jermain (Defoe) have probably been around the squad a bit longer and I think with Sturridge and Welbeck there's a lot of energy. Obviously we can both score goals so it's a good blend of forwards."

Rooney went on to single out Liverpool striker Sturridge, in particular. "Daniel's been in tremendous form this season for Liverpool," he said. "He's scored a lot of goals and it's great to see. He's been given a vote of confidence from his manager at Liverpool, who's trusted him to play him upfront and he's delivered, he's scored goals. I'm sure if we play together we'll try and link up and try and create and score goals.”

England will qualify for Brazil 2014 if it wins its final two World Cup Qualifiers against Montenegro and Poland, both at Wembley.
