Georgetown and Creighton fall

[BIG EAST: Men] No. 4 Georgetown and No. 8 Creighton dropped their first Big East games of the season when they fell at Xavier and Marquette, respectively, on Saturday.

Georgetown suffered its first loss in the past nine games with a 2-1 decision at Xavier.

The Hoyas opened the scoring in the 31st minute on a goal by Brandon Allen, but the Musketeers got the equalizer from Wes Walker on a long pass from Garrett Halfhill right before the break. Xavier dominated the second half and was rewarded in the 74th minute as Walker connected to make it 2-1.

"Tonight was a tough one," said Georgetown coach Brian Wiese. "After Brandon scored a great goal, they got a lucky one just before the half which really changed the complexion of the game. Credit to Xavier, they played a great game and handled some things that we didn't."

Marquette’s C. Nortney scored in the 23rd minute off a cross from left back Paul Dillon to give Marquette the 1-0 win. It was his seventh goal of the season and fourth straight game winner for the Golden Eagles.

Marquette matched its season-best three-game winning streak with the win over Creighton and is now 4-0-0 in Big East play.
