All but Rowdies eliminated in Cosmos chase

[NASL REWIND: Week 12] The Tampa Bay Rowdies, 1-0 winners over the San Antonio Scorpions, are the only team still with a chance of catching the New York Cosmos for the NASL fall title. The Cosmos can clinch with two games to play if they beat FC Edmonton on Sunday.

The Fort Lauderdale Strikers beat Atlanta, 6-2, to eliminate the Silverbacks from the fall title race, though Atlanta will host NASL Soccer Bowl 2013 at Atlanta Silverbacks Park on Nov. 9. The result also eliminated the San Antonio Scorpions and Carolina RailHawks, who had held out slim hopes of finishing as the second-best team over the course of both seasons if Atlanta won both titles.

The Rowdies kept their hopes alive thanks to a Luke Mulholland penalty kick.

"We wish Edmonton all the best," said Rowdies coach Ricky Hill.  "The Cosmos are a great side as they have shown during the recent results and are playing great ball."

Ivan Guerrero was the star of the Strikers' six-goal show as recorded four assists for Fort Lauderdale. Yaikel Pérez and FC Dallas loan player Bradlee Baladez scored two goals apiece while Martin Nunez and Carlos Salazar each chipped in with one.

An Enzo Martinez strike proved the difference between Carolina and Minnesota as the RailHawks won away from home for the first time in 2013 with a 1-0 win.
