Paris-Saint Germain moved two points clear of AS Monaco at the top of the Ligue 1 standings this weekend after hammering Bastia 4-0 thanks to a pair of braces from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani. Ibrahimovic opened the scoring in the 10th minute with stunning back-heel volley and then headed in his second three minutes later. Ururguay striker Cavani scored a brilliant solo goal in the 63rd minute before adding a late penalty to seal the win for Laurent Blanc’s men.
“We started really well and played a good match because the coach rested several players, so to win 4-0 ahead of the trip to Anderlecht (in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday) is not too bad,” said PSG’s French midfielder Adrien Rabiot. “We had some players suspended and others who came off the bench but we all gave everything for the team and it’s a great result.”
Monaco, meanwhile, could only manage a draw at Sochaux on Sunday after surrendering an early two-goal lead. That result left PSG alone at the top of Ligue 1 for the first time this season.
