QPR signing Onyewu: 'I feel good here already'

[AMERICANS ABROAD] Oguchi Onyewu joined the ninth club in his 12 years in Europe as he signed a short-term contract with English club Queens Park Rangers as a free agent. QPR is in second place in the League Championship, two points behind Burnley but with a game in hand, and it travels to Burnley on Saturday.

"QPR is a club with huge ambitions to return to the Premier League and I wanted to be part of it," he said. "I had a really good feeling about QPR from the moment I arrived here. I've been welcomed by the club and I feel good here already. I've already integrated well into the group, so I'm looking forward to what will hopefully be a very successful and happy time here."

After leaving AC Milan, where he played no league games after injuring his knee in October 2009 playing for the USA in a World Cup qualifier, he signed with Sporting Lisbon. He played one season in Portugal, another on loan at Malaga in Spain, then left Sporting Lisbon by mutual agreement over the summer. He recently training at Metz, the small French club at which he began his pro career.

The 31-year-old defender has played in seven European countries. This is his second stint in England. He played on loan to Newcastle in 2007.

He was recalled for the 2013 Gold Cup but replaced after the group stage. He played for the USA at the 2006 and 2010 World Cups and was one of the stars of the USA's 2-0 win over Spain at the 2009 Confederations Cup.
