[AMERICANS ABROAD] Tim Howard won the battle of U.S. keepers as Everton beat
Brad
Guzan's Aston Villa, 2-0, in a match that saw Howard stop Belgian star
Christian Benteke's penalty kick with a diving save.
Tony Taylor came off the bench to score two goals in Omonia's 6-0 win at Doxa in the Cypriot First Division.
The Villa-Everton match was billed as a battle of the Belgians
with Red Devil strikers
Kevin Mirallas and
Roman Lukaku starting for Everton and Benteke for Villa, but Howard proved to
be the difference in the game
"No one deserved that clean sheet more than Tim," Everton manager
Roberto Martinez said. "We are very privileged to
have a player like him. Everyone was focusing on trying to score and we didn't control Villa's threat. Without Tim today it would have been a very difficult second half."

-- The Norwegian title hopes of
Mix Diskerud's Rosenborg slipped as it fell at defending champion Molde. Stromsgodset can open up a three-point lead with two games to play if it beats Start on
Sunday.

Watched Geoff Cameron Saturday vs ManU. In my humble opinion none of the four members of the usual USMNT back line could even make the Stoke squad, let along play 90 min vs ManU, and play very well. Cameron should be starting US right back -- period. Sure he ain't a second right wing, but he does range forward well, very sure on his passing, and strikes a long ball into the box very well. And his marking and positional play against the wave of fine attacking players ManU threw at them was exceptional. Hope Klinnsman is watching his matches.
