[PORTLAND-BYU: Women] Ashley Hatch broke a scoreless tie with a goal in the 78th minute to give BYU a 1-0 win over No. 5Pilots in front of 5,011 fans at Merlo Field on Saturday night. The result ended a 10-game winning streak for the Pilots.

Hatch was in the right spot for the game-winning goal off a crossfrom Paige Hunt. The play began when Hunt intercepted a pass 10 yards behind midfield and centered the ball to CloeeColohan, who found Colette Jepson Smith just past midfield. Jepson Smith played Hunt down the sideline. Huntcrossed the ball to the top of the 6-yard box, where Hatch who poked it in with her left foot for the lead.

“Paige made an amazing run all the way down the field,” Hatch said. “I justtapped it in for her.”

The win is also the Cougars’ fourth straight shutout and fifth in their last six games.

“Paige and Annie [Amos]played the best game of their college careers tonight,” BYU head coach Jennifer Rockwood said. “They were closing down and stepping in front of great forwardsall night.”
