The past 24 hours have seen some confusion over the future of highly rated Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen. On Monday, German daily Bild reported that Barcelona signed a pre-contract with the 21-year-old, who would replace thedeparting Victor Valdes at the end of the current season. However, on Tuesday, ter Stegen told Sport that while he is flattered by the reported interest from the Spanishchampion, his focus is on doing well for ‘Gladbach.

“I don’t know, right now I’m focused on Borussia, which is the most important thing for me,” the German international told theCatalan paper. “I owe this club, which I’ve followed since I was little and this now is the main thing. It’s nice to hear that interest exists, but that’s all I can say at the minute. I’m happy to bein Monchengladbach and we’ll see what happens.”

When asked about his long-term future, ter Stegen said: “What has to happen will happen. I’m preparing every day to be the best goalkeeper I canand try to take it day by day.” He added that Valdes is one of the goalkeepers he looks up to, saying: “I always try to learn from the great goalkeepers. Victor is one of the best keepers in theworld. He’s done a great job at Barca for many years.”
