Redei scores four goals in U.S. debut

[CONCACAF UNDER-17 WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP] The USA won its first game against Trinidad & Tobago, 8-0, and outshot the Soca Princesses 38-0. Saturday's game with eight new starters against Guatemala was almost as good -- a 7-0 win with a 38-2 advantage in shots -- but the results left the USA in second place on goal difference in Group B at the Concacaf Under-17 Women's Championship as Canada beat the same opponents 8-0 and 11-0.

In her U.S. U-17 debut, forward Zoe Redei scored the first four goals to lead the USA into the semifinals, while midfielder Dorian Bailey and defender Gabriella Carreiro had penalty kicks late in the game and forward Kelcie Hedge added a goal in second-half stoppage time.

"I was pleased with their aggression and mentality and focus to execute the game plan," said U.S. head coach B.J. Snow. "We started eight new players in this game and they went through all the emotions that our players in the first game went through."

Snow rested six starters from the T&T, leaving them fresh for Monday's Canada game. The USA needs to defeat Canada to win the group.

The top two finishers in each group will cross over with the first-place team in Group A playing second in Group B and vice-versa. Host Jamaica has clinched a berth in the semifinals with two wins, while Mexico's 7-0 victory over Haiti -- with three goals from Santa Clara-bound Janae Gonzalez of the Cal Blues -- puts it in great shape to advance.

The semifinal winners on Thursday will earn Concacaf's two berths to the 2014 U-17 Women's World Cup next March in Costa Rica.
