Juventus faces by far its important game of the season when Real Madrid travels to Turin to face the Italian champion in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday. Juve has collected just two points from its opening three games, leaving it in third place in Group B, two points behind Galatasaray and seven points behind Real, which remains perfect in the UCL. 'The Old Lady' will need to win all three of its remaining games to guarantee automatic qualification for the Round of 16.
In his pregame press conference, Antontio Conte downplayed the significance of tactics in a game of such magnitude. “What is more important than the system is the way we interpret the game, because we are playing a candidate to win the Champions League,” the Juventus coach said. “This will be a fundamental and beautiful game. It will be crucial if we want to continue in the Champions League and we have to do something on the field to deserve continuing in the competition.”
Conte also pointed to the importance of the home support at the Juventus Stadium. “We’ll look to take advantage of the atmosphere and I expect some great support from our fans. They have to follow the team during the positive and less positive moments of the match. We have to raise ourselves against a very tall obstacle.”
The former Juve and Italy midfielder added that he was happy Englishman Howard Webb had been appointed as referee, especially following the questionable sending off of Giorgio Chiellini in the last game between the clubs at the Bernabeu a few weeks ago. “We are happy that a top tier referee, one of the best in the world, has been handed this tie,” he said.
