[UNDER-17 WORLD CUP]
Nigeria's 6-1 win over Mexico in their opening game at the Under-17 World Cup was no fluke. The Green Eaglets coasted to a 3-0 win in Friday's
final at Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi to win their record fourth U-17 title. An own goal in the ninth minute put Mexico behind, and it could never recover.
Mexico had several
chances in the opening moments until everything went wrong when Erick Aguirre
pushed a ball into his own goal.
Goals from Kelechi Iheanacho
(rebound of Musa Muhammed
's long-range blast) and Muhammed (brilliant free kick) in the second half sealed the victory for
Nigeria, which set a tournament record with 26 goals in seven games.
Iheanacho won the adidas Golden Ball as tournament's top player ahead of Brazilian Nathan
and Mexican Ivan Ochoa
