Iowa pulls second upset in three days

[BIG TEN: Women] After beating No. 8 Michigan in the quarterfinals, Iowa pulled another upset when it beat Penn State, last year's national runner-up, 1-0, and moved into the Big Ten final against top-seed Nebraska in Champaign, Ill.

Melanie Pickert flicked a corner kick by Bri Toelle from inside the box to give the Hawkeyes the lead in the 19th minute. Hannah Clark picked up eight saves to preserve only Iowa's second win over Penn State in 21 wins.

The Nittany Lions finished with a 25-14 edge in shots but couldn't find the goal. Maya Hayes was on target with a header in the 69th minute but was stopped short as an Iowa defender cleared the ball.

Hayes had another shot blocked in the 80th minute. Sophomore Raquel Rodriguez aimed the rebound from the top of the 18-yard box but just missed as the ball collided with the crossbar.

NEBRASKA-INDIANA. No. 15 Nebraska  faced an early deficit for the second straight match but used three second-half goals to defeat Indiana, 3-1, for its eighth consecutive win.

Freshman Jaycie Johnson recorded two goals for the third time to give her 12 goals this season, and defender Kylie Greischar had the game-winner as she dribbled through the defense along the top of the box and fired a left-footed shot into the goal midway through the second half.

Indiana had jumped out quickly as Bekah White sent a sharp ball into the upper right corner of the goal in the eighth minute.
