Fine sportsmanship in Saudi Arabia

[VIDEO PICK: Off the Post] What's a goalkeeper to do when he has to tie his shoe in the middle of the game -- an impossible task with gloves on? It may have been lost on the referee, but the sportsmanship displayed during Al Nahdha-Al Ittihad in Saudi Arabia was quite touching.

Al Nahdha goalkeeper Taisir Al Antaif noticed he had a loose shoelace and hesitated releasing the ball. Al Ittihad's Brazilian striker Jobson ran toward the keeper -- and fixed the laces.

Referee Abdulaziz Al Funaitel responded with a delay-of-game call, but on the ensuing free kick Al Ittihad simply stroked the ball out of bounds.

Great video. I am a strong proponent of the Laws of the Game but sometimes common sense must take a higher priority. There was no need for the official to call delay of game. Congratulations to both teams for their sportsmanship.

Very classy (though the ref probably should have used the "common sense" rule and not called the keeper for timewasting). Everybody benefits when players exercise good sportsmanship.

from what I've been told, this match was apparently tied at 2-2 when this took place...
