Loyola Marymount clinches first outright title

[WCC: Men] Loyola Marymount won the WCC title outright for the first time when it beat Santa Clara, 1-0, on Friday night at Buck Shaw Stadium.

The Lions had a four-point lead over the second-place Broncos heading into the regular-season finale and needed just a draw to secure the WCC title.

They dominated the first half with an 8-1 shot advantage but didn't break through until Juan De Rada's goal in the 70th minute when he one-touched Mark Dotseth's cross from the left corner at the far post.

Goalie Paul Blanchette posted his LMU single-season record seventh shutout.

The Lions concluded the regular season at 13-4-2 to clinch their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2009.
