Brookdale overcomes snow, hail and sleet for first title

Brookdale Community College won its first NJCAA Division III women’s title with a 4-3 win over defending champion Mohawk Valley. The Jersey Blues had 2-0 and 3-1 leads before Mohawk Valley came back to tie the score. With less than six minutes left in regulation, freshman Amanda Anastasia scored on a header off a corner kick by Keara Homan to win the game. The biggest obstacle in the final may have been the weather. “The sun was out to start the game,” Brookdale coach Katie Miller said. “Then it was snowing, and then it was raining. Then we had hail and sleet later in the game, and the wind was insane."
