Stanford win gives Pac-12 four teams in final 16

[CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE-STANFORD: Men] Matt Taylor scored on a set piece in the 21st minute to give Stanford a 1-0 win at No. 15 Cal State Northridge in front of near-capacity crowd on a frigid evening Sunday night at Matador Soccer Field. The win gave the six-team Pac-12 four wins in four games in the second round of the NCAA Men's Tournament.

The Cardinal will play No. 2 Washington Sunday, while No. 1 UCLA and No. 4 Cal also won.

Stanford held Northridge to only shot on goal in the match -- from Northridge goalie Adam Hobbs, who sent a ball forward from the midfield line in the 88th minute after joining the attack. The ball was headed on goal, where Stanford goalkeeper Drew Hutchins caught it.

On Thursday night against Loyola Marymount, Hutchins assisted on Stanford’s equalizer and converted the match-winner in the shootout.

The Cardinal has now reached the round of 16 in each of its past five NCAA Tournament appearances (2000-02, 2009, 2013).

"We wanted more," said CSUN head coach Terry Davila. "It's a good accomplishment to get here, but we wanted more."
