Sporting director Francisco Palencia
returned last week to take over as the sporting director at Chivas de
Guadalajara. On Monday, José Luis “Guero” Real
was announced as Chivas de Guadalajara's new head coach, begging the question, is anyone in
charge back in Carson?
Real had a 3-12-6 record after he took over for Jose Luis “El Chelis” Sanchez Sola
in late May and Chivas USA
again finished in last place in the Western Conference.
Real insisted that there had been progress in 2013.
“We worked on the first stage of a project that will show
results in three years,” Real said at the press conference in Guadalajara where he was introduced as the new Chivas coach. “It’s been the most difficult stage. We, as much Paco
Palencia as myself, left everything ready for the new season.”
Midseason acquisitions of Carlos Bocanegra
and Erick “Cubo” Torres
helped, but Chivas USA remains very thin with just 19 players on its roster
Last week Chivas USA parted ways with 10 players -- including
four headed back to Guadalajara -- to bring to 29 the total number of players the club had gotten rid of in 2013.
