Four days after discarding one Costa Rican, the Columbus Crew signed another one in the first major acquisition by new head coach and sporting
director Gregg Berhalter
. Young left back Waylon Francis
joins the Crew from Herediano.
Francis earned his first cap for Costa Rica in January and has one goal in 87 league appearances for Herediano. He previously spent one season each at Limon and Brujas. His move to the Crew had been
reported in the Costa Rica press last month, before the Berhalter hiring was announced.
The Crew had last week parted ways with Jairo Arrieta
five other players.
The club also announced the signing of Matt Wiet
to a homegrown contract and re-signing of defender Josh Williams
