U.S. ABROAD (Oct. 28-29): Tottenham, Keller advance; Blackburn, Friedel lose

Tottenham beat West Ham in the English Carling League Cup, taking Kasey Keller into the fourth round, along with Claudio Reyna, Tim Howard and Marcus Hahnemann, while Brad Friedel fell with Blackburn against Liverpool.

Reyna and Howard rested as Manchester City and Manchester United defeated QPR and Leeds, respectively.

In German Cup play, American Jacob Thomas scored for Eintracht Braunschweig in the Third Division team's 2-0 upset over Steve Cherundolo's Hannover 96.

Greg Vanney advanced with Bastia in the French League Cup, while Wade Barrett returned from injury to see action in the Danish league.
