Grand View heads 16-team field after surviving scare

[NAIA MEN: Preview] All 16 host teams, 15 of them seeds, won their first-round games to advance to the 55th annual NAIA Men’s National Championship that begins Monday in Montgomery, Ala.

No. 1 seed Grand View needed goals in the last seven minutes from Scotsman Brian Lee and Englishman Matthew Kenton to beat Bellevue, 4-3, and make its fourth straight national championship appearance. In the second round, the Vikings face No. 16 seed Martin Methodist.

No. 2 seed Lindsey Wilson its making its 20th straight trip to the national championship and will face Indiana Wesleyan, the lone unseeded team to advance to the finals.

Indiana Wesleyan earned its first trip to the national championships by beating Davenport 5-0. No. 3 seed Oklahoma Wesleyan and No. 10 seed Missouri Valley also earned their first national championship victories to advance to Alabama.

Defending champion Belhaven is the No. 8 seed and will face off against No. 9 seed MidAmerica Nazarene on Tuesday. No team has repeated since Lindsey Wilson won four championships in a row in 1998-2001.
