Beasley leaves Puebla for Queretaro

[AMERICANS ABROAD] DaMarcus Beasley, whose move to Mexico two and a half years ago helped resurrect his national team career, has left Puebla for Queretaro, which he will join for the Torneo Clausura that starts in January.

Beasley, who had one of the best international careers of any American field player to ever play in Europe, looked to be at the crossroads in the summer of 2011 when he left German club Hannover 96.

Puebla picked him up and he has played 66 games in five half-seasons, scoring 11 goals, but it never made the playoffs during his time with the club.

Beasley turns 32 in May and is looking to return to the World Cup with the USA for a fourth time. His play on the outside for Puebla earned him a recall under Jurgen Klinsmann, who handed him the starting left back job in March, and the Ft. Wayne, Ind., has held on to it ever since.

Queretaro finished seventh in the Torneo Apertura but lost in the quarterfinals to Santos.

Queretaro was relegated last spring, but its owner bought Jaguares and moved that club from Chiapas to Queretaro to give the city a team -- known as the Gallos Blancos -- in the Primera Division.

(In a game of musical chairs, San Luis moved to Chiapas, and La Piedad, which took the original Queretaro team's place in the Liga MX, moved to Veracruz.)

Michael Orozco, who also plays on the U.S. national team with Beasley, remains at Puebla on loan from Chiapas.

-- Daniel Cuevas, who played for the USA at the 2013 Under-20 World Cup, has left Santos to join Lobos BUAP of the (second division) Ascenso MX. Cuevas never broke into the Santos' first team.

-- Benji Joya
, who played with the USA at the Under-20 World Cup, has been rumored to be headed to Puebla from Santos. Joya made his first-team debut for La Franja in 2012-13 but his progress was slowed after returning from the Under-20 World Cup. He helped Santos win the Liga MX sub-20 (under-20 championship) this fall.
