[AMERICANS ABROAD] Sacha Kljestan
became only the fifth American to score in the UEFA Champions League when he struck for
eight-man Anderlecht in its 3-1 loss at Olympiakos. The goal was his eighth of the season in all competitions for the Belgian club.

*completed 2013 spring-fall season.
Kljestan had the easiest of shots after being set up by former MLS Rookie of the
Year Andy Najar
and Guillaume Gillet
for Anderlecht's equalizer in the 39th minute.
Other Americans to score in the Champions League: Jovan Kirovski
, DaMarcus Beasley, Maurice Edu
and Jermaine Jones
Olympiakos, which needed to win to edge out Benfica for second place in the group behind Paris St. Germain, went on to win on second-half goals by Argentines Javier
and Alejandro Dominguez.
Anderlecht lost three players to red cards in the 49th and 88th minutes and stoppage time.
Contrary to a
report in the Belgian paper Het Laatste Nieuws that he was being treated for skin cancer, Kljestan told
SI.com's Grant Wahl
that he was using an aggressive treatment to kill pre-cancerous spots on face.
Anderlecht finished with one point in six games in the Champions
League. Its bid for a third straight league title looks to be in jeopardy as it is tied for third place, fourth points behind leader Standard Liege.
