Grosskreutz Saves Wasteful Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp accused his team of missing too many opportunities against Marseille on Wednesday as the German giant eked into the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 thanks to an 87th-minute Kevin Grosskreutz goal. In fact, the 2-1 win at the Stade Velodrome was enough for Dortmund to finish top of Group F, ahead of Arsenal and Napoli thanks to its head-to-head record against both teams, as all three finished with 12 points. The result also meant that Napoli, which beat Arsenal 2-0 in Naples, became the first team in UCL history to fail to qualify for the Round of 16 with 12 points.

"We've done everything right in the end but with so much wrong," Klopp said after the game. "We wasted so many opportunities. It is now a great feeling. During the break one or two hard words were exchanged, but I only sought to motivate the team."

Game-winner Grosskreutz added that he and his teammates could now look forward to celebrating. "That was a great feeling," the Dortmund winger said. "We would have been out, and then I popped it in the corner. The team and all our fans deserve that. We can now indulge ourselves with one or two beers."
