Gulati Confident Klinsmann Will Continue with USA

US Soccer Federation President Sunil Gulati is confident that Jurgen Klinsmann will remain national team head coach despite interest from Tottenham and Switzerland. In an interview, Gulati noted that the new four-year deal the German was handed last week was not just about fending off interest from other parties. Following news that Andre Villas-Boas had been fired as coach of Spurs on Monday, Klinsmann was one of the first names mentioned as a potential successor. However, Gulati remains confident that the four-year renewal will keep the former World Cup winner tied to the USA.

"We've obviously read some of those things," Gulati said of the speculation surrounding Klinsmann and other available jobs. "On a specific level, none of those things were critical to us [in signing the extension]. The desire to make sure we had a long-term commitment from Jurgen, and he had one from us, was part of it, and market dynamic does dictate some of that.”

He added: "So we're not oblivious to the fact that Jurgen over the last two years has had an extraordinary run with the national team and that would bring a lot of interest from the outside.” Any coach, “that has done very well, that has an international reputation, who speaks multiple languages would be sought after,” he said.
