Four players sign Generation adidas contracts

[MLS SPOTLIGHT] The first four Generation adidas players were confirmed with the signing of underclassmen Andre Blake (Connecticut), Marlon Hairston (Louisville), Eric Miller (Creighton) and Schillo Tshuma (Maryland).

The four players will enter the 2014 MLS SuperDraft to be held on Jan. 16 in Philadelphia.

ANDRE BLAKE. Considered one of the top goalie prospects to come out of college. Was named an All-American for the third straight year, earning first-team nods in 2012 and 2013. Latest Jamaican star to come out of UConn following the likes of Damani Ralph and Shavar Thomas.

MARLON HAIRSTON. Comes out after two seasons at Louisville, where he had six goals and five assists in 39 games. Last action with the U.S. U-20 national team in 2013. Considered one of the top midfielders in the 104 SuperDraft pool.

ERIC MILLER. Versatile defender started at right back for the USA in U-20 World Cup qualifying and was part of the team that went to Turkey for the finals. Minnesota product started 62 of 63 games during his tenure at Creighton, which reached the Men's College Cup in 2011 and 2012.

SCHILLO TSHUMA. Zimbabwean forward came to the United States to attend Episcopal High School in Virginia and then spent two seasons at Maryland. He helped the Terrapins advance to the Men’s College Cup in both seasons, though he had a better season as a freshman than as a sophomore when Maryland reached the final.

Given that the majority of the soccer community has come to the conclusion that college soccer is NOT the nursery for future stars it seems that Generation Adidas should cast its net much more broadly to identify their recipients. I realize that this is probably a hopeless task given the incestuous ties between colleges (football, basketball, etc) and Adidas but hope springs eternal !!!
