[NASL 2014 COUNTDOWN]
Dutch forward Hans Denissen
, who was tied for third in scoring in the NASL with San Antonio in 2012,
has signed with the champion New York Cosmos for the 2014 season.
“I’m so excited to be joining the New York Cosmos,” Denissen said in a statement. “This is a club
not only with a great history, but a great future, too. Having played against the Cosmos last season, I know this is a team that prides itself on playing an attractive style of attacking soccer.
I’m really looking forward to joining this group.”
Denissen, 29, scored 12 goals in 2013, tripling his tally from 2012 and earning NASL Best XI honors. He spent time with
clubs in the Netherlands, Cyprus and Finland before moving to the Scorpions in 2012.
He is the second NASL scoring star to switch clubs. Top scorer Brian
moved from Carolina to Tampa Bay. Brazilian Pablo Campos
, who was second to Shriver's 15 goals with 13, has re-signed with Minnesota, while
Bulgarian Georgi Hristov
will return to the Rowdies.
The Cosmos also re-signed 22-year-old midfielder Sebastian
, who started in Soccer Bowl 2013 against Atlanta. Guenzatti, 22, was born in Uruguay and spent his teenage years in the College Point section of Queens.
-- Tampa Bay
acquired the rights to forward Lucky Mkosana
from USL PRO’s Harrisburg City Islanders. He had joined the Rowdies on loan in September after the end of the
USL PRO season. The 26-year-old Zimbabwean finished the 2013 regular season with 13 goals and had 20 goals in two seasons since graduating from Dartmouth.
