The U.S. women's national team will follow up on its game Jan. 31 against Canada in Frisco, Texas, with a game Feb. 8 against Russia at FAU Stadium in
Boca Raton, Fla. Tom Sermanni's team will travel from Frisco to South Florida in preparation for the match.
The USA has not played Russia since 2002, winning, 5-1, in a match played in
Uniondale, N.Y. It has an all-time 5-0-1 record against Russia.
The Russians took part in the 2013 European Women's Championship, losing to France before tying England and Spain, but
their 2015 Women's World Cup qualifying campaign began disastrously with a 9-0 loss at Germany. They beat Slovakia, 2-0, in their only other match.
"It's always a positive to play
countries that we maybe haven't seen that often," said U.S. head coach Tom Sermanni
in a statement. "The Russians have some talented players and with eight
European countries qualifying for the next Women's World Cup, every country in that tournament is going to have to navigate some very difficult European opponents."
