How hot is MLS right now? In Minnesota, you have both NFL and MLB teams potentially vying to include soccer in stadium ventures.
affiliate KSTP reported
that Minnesota United FC owner Bill McGuire
is vying with Zygi Wilf
, principal owner of the NFL Vikings, to land an MLS expansion team.
McGuire's plan, still very much in the exploratory stage, would be to build
a stadium next to Target Field, home of the Twins, located in downtown Minneapolis.
The model for a soccer stadium: Sporting Park in Kansas City, which KSTP's 5 Eyewitness News reported
United and Twins officials have visited.
The Vikings' plan would be to play the new football stadium when it opens in 2016 on the site of the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, where they just
completed their last season. They will play on the campus of the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis in 2014 and 2015.
-- Sporting Park is the mecca for soccer stadium designers.
Officials from the city of Orlando, including Mayor Buddy Dyer,
and Phil Rawlins
, president of MLS expansion club
Orlando City SC, are in Kansas City Tuesday and Wednesday working with architect firm Populous on what the Orlando Sentinel described
as "big-picture ideas for the design of the $84 million stadium.
