Brooks injures knee in Hertha practice

[AMERICANS ABROAD] John Brooks' tough luck at Hertha Berlin continues. The young German-American defender, who debuted for the USA in 2013,  suffered a knee injury (left PCL strain) during training on Monday, sidelining him for the next 10-14 days of winter practice.

Brooks, who'll miss Hertha's winter camp in Turkey, earned Team of the Week honors twice in the early going for the promoted  club, but he played in just played eight of Hertha's 17 games as he suffered an elbow injury in late September and went 10 weeks without playing.

Twice in the fall, Brooks was pulled by Coach Jos Luhukay from a game in the first half. After the second time, Luhukay said it was time Brooks grew up.

ENGLAND. Jozy Altidore came on the 73rd minute of Sunderland's 2-1 home win over Manchester United in the first leg of their Capital One Cup semifinals on Tuesday night. The result was United's three straight 2-1 defeat of the New Year.
