Report: Moyes Losing United Locker Room

  • Guardian, Thursday, January 9, 2014 1:21 PM
The Guardian reports that David Moyes may be losing the Manchester United locker room as several senior players are starting to question their coach’s credentials after United slumped to its third straight loss to open 2014 -- the club’s worst run in 13 years. Moyes’ men have lost their last three games by a scoreline of 2-1, starting with Tottenham Hotspur at home in the Premier League on New Year’s Day, Swansea City at home in the FA Cup four days later, and away to Sunderland in the first leg of the League Cup semifinals two days after that.

Moreover, Moyes is being investigated by the FA for comments made about referee Andre Marriner’s performance in the loss at Sunderland, where the former Everton boss suggested that United is playing against the match officials as well as its opponents. According to the Guardian, Moyes, who has never won a major trophy, is now seeing his record scrutinized by several of United’s senior players who worry that the club could fail to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League. This week’s revelation that captain Nemanja Vidic and left back Patrice Evra are considering leaving the club this summer isn’t helping, nor are the constant rumors linking star duo Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie with moves away from Old Trafford.

Ironically, Moyes is on the short list of nominees for the Premier League’s Manager of the Month award for December, thanks to the Red Devils’ strong performances at the end of last month. Also on the short list are Chelsea’s Jose Mourinho, Manchester City’s Manuel Pellegrini and Everton’s Roberto Martinez.
