West Ham United coach Sam Allardyce threw his hands up following Manchester City’s 6-0 demolition of his team at the Etihad in the League Cup semi-final first-leg on Wednesday,claiming that West Ham was simply beaten by a better team. Spanish striker Alvaro Negredo bagged a hat-trick while Edin Dzeko scored twice and YayaToure added another as City eased towards a place in the final at Wembley.
“We are very disappointed obviously, but to look at Manchester City’s record at home this season and whatthey have done to Tottenham and Manchester United, and Arsenal — we knew they had to have an off night and we had to have a really good night from our point of view,” Allardyce told Sky Sports. “Thefact of the matter was that Manchester City’s finishing was outstanding, never mind the build-up play. Outstanding in every sense of the word.”
Unfortunately for Allardyce, the 6-0demolition in the League Cup follows a 5-0 trouncing at the hands of Championship club Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup last weekend. He admitted that despite the club’s many injury problems, ifWest Ham keeps registering results like that then he would probably lose his job. “You cannot keep losing football matches, that is for sure, as a manager,” Allardyce said. “You cannot think it willbe allowed to continue. I don’t want it to continue, that is for sure.”
