Report: Sounders' Montero Could Make Permanent Move to Sporting CP

MLSSoccer.com reports that Portuguese club Sporting CP is seeking to have striker Fredy Montero’s loan move from the Seattle Sounders become permanent. According to Colombian daily El Pais and Spanish daily Marca, Montero would cost somewhere in the region of 10-12 million euros ($13.5 million-$16 million), a fee that would go to Seattle. The Colombian is having a breakout year in Portugal, leading the division in scoring with 16 goals in 17 competitive games. So far, Seattle is denying that a transfer is imminent. However, if the numbers prove to be accurate, Montero’s transfer would be the largest fee ever paid for a MLS player, eclipsing the roughly $10 million Villarreal paid for Jozy Altidore in 2008.
